Morgan WEISTLING, 1964 ✿

Morgan Weistling (California, 1964) is an American painter raised in Southern California.  Known for realistic figurative paintings of adults and children in antique settings and American pioneer life. Morgan Weistling began his art career as a movie-poster illustrator.

After 14 years, he left illustration to pursue fine art. Interested in the effects of light, Weistling's paintings capture the mood and atmosphere of the past. His attention to the historical aspects of his subjects comes from his desire to portray the truth and beauty of America's pioneering spirit.

For fourteen years, he worked as an illustrator of movie posters. His artist hero is Richard Schmid whom he calls a "pure artist."  Also a close friend of Dan Gerhartz, Weistling realized from him he could make a living at fine art and has been highly successful, painting in the loose painterly style of Joaquin Sorolla and John Singer Sargent.

Morgan Weistling is the winner of the 2011 Patron's Choice Award--Autry National Heritage Museum Masters of the American West Show., and winner of the 2008 Prix de West Purchase Award for his painting, "Indian Stories", which is now in the permanent collection of the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Morgan has an amazing gift. Not only are his paintings beautiful, charming and done with wonderful technique, but Morgan also has an exceptional ability to show the spirit of the subject in his work.
