René Gérin was a French painter, born in 1862 and appears to have been most active during the 1880s and 1890s. Judith Gautier (1845-1917) ebbe una fulminea attrazione per quella che considerava la "bellezza celeste" del giovane pittore René Gérin, i cui "occhi color zaffiro" le ricordavano le "profondità marittime".
