Hans Canon or Johann von Straschiripka (1829-1885) was an Austrian history and portrait painter. Hans Canon attended the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1845 and had Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller and Carl Rahl as teachers.
He became a cuirassiers officer in the Austrian army and, after receiving appreciation for works that testify to the influence of Carl Rahl, he had the opportunity to make study trips to England, France, Italy and the East.
From 1860 he resided in Karlsruhe and from 1869 in Stuttgart, until, in 1874, he returned to Vienna. His production includes works attributable to genre painting, historical painting and portraiture, with evident influences by Rubens and Titian.
