The work of Poen de Wijs has evolved from abstract to realistic, the first realistic aquarelles date from 1977. Since then he has build an extensive oeuvre of more than 700 works, first in aquarelle, later in oil and acrylic paint from 1999. He also has made a large number editions in lithography.
His work have been published during the course of the years in art magazines, journals and newspapers. The opinions of the critics about his work are very diverse, but one thing everyone always agreed upon: the high technical quality of his work.
